Technical Information and Specifications

Technical Overview

The following specifications represent the minimum hardware requirements for running Sun Ridge Sytems software applications.  While these specifications are sufficient for basic functionality, optimal performance may require hardware exceeding these minimums.

Certain features or functionalities of the software may not be available or may experience reduced performance on systems that barely meet these requirements.

It is recommended to use hardware that exceeds these minimum requirements for a smoother and more responsive user experience. The actual performance of the software may vary based on factors such as the complexity of the data being processed and the concurrent usage of other applications.

Office Workstations

Existing Computers
  • Microsoft Windows 10+
  • 2+ Ghz CPU / i5+
  • 8GB RAM
  • Any Size Disk Space
New Computers
  • Microsoft Windows 10+
  • i7/i9 CPUs
  • 16GB RAM
  • Any Size Disk Space

Field Devices

Use these specifications for laptops and tablets employing Mobile RIMS and Officer Field Reporting (OFR).  These devices must comply with FBI CJIS policies including:

  • Mobile Data Management Solution (MDM)
  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).  Sun Ridge Systems uses:
    • Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP)
    • YubiKey
  • Virus Protection
  • High-speed internet connection
  • Agencies can also deploy GPS/AVL devices (serial or network-based).

Agencies using Getac tablets or laptops configured with barcode scanning or NFC seamlessly integrate with MobileRIMS.

iRIMS

Phone and Tablet Devices using Android or iOS applications must provide connectivity from the Phone or Tablet via the Internet back to the Agency to reach the Application Server.  The agency must also provide a secure method to reach the Application Server, which can be done in various ways. Most agencies choose to use an agency-provided Virtual Private Network (VPN) or NetMotion-type product that these devices support.

Android
  • Android 13+
iOS
  • iOS 16+

Database Server

Use these specifications for the primary (database) server that employs the following products:

  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Rico Web Services Hub
  • IIS
  • RIMS Data Exchange
We recommend a Microsoft SQL Database Server and a separate Application Server.  Depending on your agency size, you could run both on one server.  Utilizing an existing SQL Server is also possible, providing it meets FBI CJIS requirements.
Existing Server
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016+
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016+
  • Intel 2 GHz+ CPU
  • 16 GB+ RAM
  • Disk 3x current system database size for data conversion
New Server
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2022+
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2022+
  • i7, Xeon, or AMD equivalent CPU
  • 32 GB+ RAM
  • Disk 3x current system database size for data conversion

Application Server

Use these specifications for the application server that employs the following products:

  • Rico Web Services
  • IIS
  • RIMS Mobile Computer Controller
  • RIMS State Switch
  • e911 Interface
  • Fire Monitor
Application Server Specifications
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2022+
  • i7, Xeon, or AMD equivalent CPU
  • 32 GB+ RAM
  • Disk 3x current system database size for data conversion

Virtual servers are supported for both database and application servers – VMWare and Hyper-V are a couple of examples.

Database Management

Agencies can employ various methods for backing up data.  Sun Ridge Systems can provide guidance based on specific scenarios—contact RIMS Support for additional information.

Peripheral Hardware

Monitors

The minimum monitor resolution for all RIMS applications is 1920 x 1080.

  • DymoLabel 550 (Use Label #30256)
  • Zebra ZD421 Thermal Printer (Property Room)
Driver License Bar-Code Scanner
Driver’s License barcode scanning using enabled Getac tablets or DL scanners (COM-port Serial – AAMVA format – purchased separately by the Agency).
  • E-Seek 250 (InCustody JMS/Property Room)
  • E-Seek 260 (InCustody JMS/Property Room)
Signature Pads

InCustody and Property Room products support the use of signature pads. The supported device is the Topaz SigLite Slim 1×5 T-S461, electronic signature pad. This device is not provided nor maintained by Sun Ridge.

Property and Evidence Scanner
  • DataWorth 7000 Series (Property Room)
Multi Authentication
FBI CJIS Requirements

All workstations must comply with FBI CJIS policies, including Multi-Factor
Authentication (MFA).  MFA can be provided within the Sun Ridge Systems products, or the agency can
use its solution.

Sun Ridge Systems only offers these two MFA possession solutions:  Time-Based
One-Time Password (TOTP) Authenticator and physical YubiKeys (purchased by the agency).  For mobile
devices using Mobile RIMS or iRIMS, a Mobile Data Management (MDM) software product may be
required, which Sun Ridge Systems does not provide nor sell.   The agency is responsible for other FBI
CJIS requirements, including virus protection, local firewalls, and VPNs.

*Effective October 1, 2024, Multi-factor Authorization will be required for all workstations except for
Dispatch workstations.

Remote Access

Sun Ridge Support Access

Sun Ridge Systems uses Bomgar by Beyond Trust to connect to customer servers and workstations.  Beyond Trust meets or exceeds security compliance requirements as directed by the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services policies manual.

Agency Remote Access

Agencies accessing applications remotely should use a high-speed (1GB+) connection.  The minimum connection speed should be at least 100 MB.
